DreamLeague Season 22: Group B Wrapped Up, Group A Requires Tiebreakers

News

On the final day in regulation of the DreamLeague Season 22 Group Stage, all eight matches ended in a draw; what are the odds of that?

That aside, two advancement spots and three eliminated teams have been decided in Group A. Still, a three-way tiebreaker is required to determine the last eliminated team in the group. On the other hand, all results in Group B have been finalized, with no tiebreakers needed.

Group A Results

The BetBoom Team and Team Falcons, two top-three finishers at BetBoom DACHA Dubai, proved their worth and claimed the top two spots in their group. Coming into today, Heroic and Azure Ray had to win both their matches 2-0 but could only manage a draw, resulting in their eliminations.

The top two teams, BetBoom Team and Falcons traded maps in their match today, which didn’t really matter. Azure Ray had won their first game against Virtus.Pro, but threw an 11,000 net worth lead in the second to be eliminated from the tournament, while Virtus.Pro has another chance in the tiebreaker.

Heroic was on a similar boat with Azure Ray against OG. The South American squad won the first map after a 72-minute thriller but lost the second. Had OG won 2-0, they would have advanced without tiebreakers. Since Heroic couldn’t convert the 2-0, they were sent home.

The Gaimin Gladiators faced G2.IG, a team that had already been eliminated since yesterday – they had nothing to play for. Still, G2.IG took a map from the Gladiators, forcing them into the same situation as OG and Virtus.Pro.

Tomorrow, a three-way tiebreaker will be played between OG, Virtus.Pro, and the Gaimin Gladiators. Three teams will battle for two spots, meaning only one team of the three will face elimination. The tiebreakers will follow a Best of 1 format.

Group B Results

As mentioned earlier, the conclusion of Group B was much easier and more apparent. The funniest part about it is Team Liquid and 1win, who had already been eliminated before the day, had nothing to play for in their final match but took two teams down with them.

Coming into the day, Team Secret and Tundra Esports had to win their matches 2-0 to have a chance at Playoffs. However, since Team Secret was only at 5 points, they also needed Team Spirit to lose 0-2.

Team Secret and Tundra Esports were tasked to face Team Liquid and 1win, who didn't even have to show up for today's matches. In Map 1, Team Liquid stomped Team Secret in 19 minutes, denying Puppey his hopes and dreams of making it through.

Tundra Esports, on the other hand, had the weakest opponents and won the first game. However, 1win, despite being 8,000 gold down at 13 minutes, made a comeback to tie the series 1-1 with a Terrorblade Support in their team. Tundra is heavily regretting this throw, as a draw meant they would not have enough points to force the tiebreaker against Team Spirit

As a result, Xtreme Gaming, Shopify Rebellion, Team Aurora, and Team Spirit will carry the torch left by four eliminated teams.

Tomorrow, the three-way tiebreaker in Group A will be played. The eight advancing teams will make it to the Second Group Stage that begins on the 4th of March.
