EEU Qualifiers Day 1: Nemiga Underperforms, Remaining Favorites Move On

News
Published at: 2023-08-22 17:48:00

We didn’t have too many surprises on the first day of the Eastern European Qualifiers, except Nemiga heavily underperforming. Here’s a recap of what happened today!

Virtus.Pro 2-0 Matreshka

Virtus.Pro has a great chance of winning the entire qualifier, and they didn’t disappoint in their first showing against Matreshka. Both games ended in 27 minutes, and Matreshka had no chance.

Virtus.Pro moves on in the Upper Bracket, while Matreshka will have a second chance in the Lower Bracket.

Nemiga Gaming 0-2 Natus Vincere

Nemiga Gaming weren’t heavy favorites coming into the series against Natus Vincere, but their showing in this match was underwhelming.

Natus Vincere quickly stomped the first game in 24 minutes. The second game was much closer, but Natus Vincere edged the game out in 42 minutes.

Nemiga Gaming showed great potential in other tournaments, such as the BetBoom DACHA Online Stage, but they will be sent back to the drawing board to figure out how to complete a Lower Bracket run.

One Move 2-1 Team Sexy

One Move is another competitor to win the qualifiers, and they were tasked to play against Team Sexy for their first match.

Team Sexy managed to win the first map of the series after a star performance from their Mirage’s Ember Spirit. However, One Move proved that the first game was a fluke and easily won the next two to complete the reverse sweep.

Team Sexy aren’t eliminated yet, but will only have one more life to work with.

UALEIKUMNIHAO 1-2 Hydra

Hydra is another fierce competitor in the Eastern European qualifiers, while their opponent, UALEIKUMNIHAO, wasn’t considered one.

However, in the first game of the series, Worick's Ember Spirit was utterly shut down in the Mid Lane. A lack of impact from the Ember Spirit allowed UALEIKUMNIHAO to convincingly take the first map. Worick ended up having no game at all and finished the game with a KDA of 0/13/8 as a Mid Laner.

Fortunately for Hydra, they quickly reset after a very tilting game. They returned to the series with fresh minds and demolished UALEIKUMNIHAO in the next two games to deny the upset.

Updated Bracket

Here is what the EEU bracket looks like after today’s results:

Tomorrow, Lower Bracket matches will be played, meaning four teams will be eliminated.
