Most important Dota 2 tournaments held in Germany

Exclusive

For the last couple of weeks, there have been many debates about the new venue for The International 10. Many think that Germany will host the main tournament of the year. But Valve has the last word on that. In this article, we decided to remind you of the most important Dota 2 tournaments that took place in this country.

The International 2011

Many have already forgotten, probably, but the very first Dota 2 tournament of The International series was held in Cologne, Germany. For the current Dota 2, the first The International can be compared to a usual major, but in 2011 it was a breakthrough. The 16 strongest teams from all over the world met on the LAN and played each other for a $1,600,000 prize. At the time, such an amount was incredible for Esports. The tournament's champion was Natus Vincere, which with the $1,000,000 prize gained a huge fan base.

Of course, it cannot be called perfect. A few people covered the event, there were not even any analytical studios, and the broadcasts had long delays. But, of course, it was a positive experience for such a large Esports event.

Frankfurt Major 2015

Like The International 2011, Germany also hosted the first major in Dota 2 history, Frankfurt Major 2015, held in Frankfurt. A total of 3 majors were held that year, each with a $3,000,000 prize.

Unlike all The International tournaments, this was the first time Valve allowed third-party organizations to host their own tournaments. And the first one went to ESL. It's due to their previous contribution to the development of Esports. Just a year before the tournament, they had already held their own LAN in Frankfurt.

For most fans of Dota 2, Frankfurt Major 2015 is still one of their favorite tournaments. There, OG showed their incredible level of play for the first time and became the tournament's champion.

ESL One Hamburg 2017

The third major German city to host Dota 2 events was Hamburg. ESL was lucky enough to host the major again in 2017, and their choice was Germany again.

ESL One Hamburg 2017 opened the 2017-2018 Dota 2 competition season. Unlike the previous major, the organizers introduced a DPC points system and changed the tournament's format. The prize pool was $1,500,000 instead of $3,000,000, and the number of participants was reduced to 8. Despite this, Barclaycard Arena was filled, and hundreds of thousands of fans were watching the broadcasts.

That ends the list of Dota 2 landmark events in Germany. But it could continue if Valve decides to hold The International 10 in this country.
