SumaiL teared up, announcing the possible end of his career: "Just yesterday we were one step away from top-3"
Nigma Galaxy left The International 2026, finishing 5th-6th. After a tense and nearly equal matchup between Nigma Galaxy and BetBoom Team, the teams that made it to the top 4 of the main tournament of the year were determined. Notably, they all turned out to be organizations from the same region: Eastern Europe.
After the frustrating defeat, SumaiL gave a post-match interview in which he reflected on the team's journey at The International 2026 and on his future:
"We tried our best, everything was going quite well. Just yesterday we were one map away from making it to the top 3 at The International. Today's series was not bad, but something went wrong. I don't know about our team, but for me, this is most likely the last event..."
In June of this year, right after Nigma Galaxy qualified for The International 2026, SumaiL wrote on his social media: "I qualified for TI, probably the last one for me. Thanks for the support". Later he confirmed that he was very tired of the competitive scene and found it hard to give himself fully to the process.
During his 11-year professional career, SumaiL became the youngest TI winner in history, lifting the trophy at The International 2015 at the age of 16. He later took 3rd place at The International 2016 and The International 2018 as part of the same Evil Geniuses, showing incredible play on his signature Storm Spirit. Among other things, he holds the record for the most kills on a single map at The International — 31 kills on Tiny against OG in 2018 (as of 2026, he shares the top spot with Yatoro, who scored 31 kills on Kez during The International 2026).
