WePlay AniMajor has the same format as One Esports Singapore Major 2021, but with a different schedule
Tournament organization WePlay, which hosts the WePlay AniMajor in the current DPC season, has answered several questions regarding the upcoming championship.
What format will WePlay AniMajor have?
The championship format is identical to One Esports Singapore Major 2021 and includes three stages: Wild Card, Groups, and Playoffs. However, the event lasts 3 days longer than the first Major, due to which the schedule of matches is different. In addition, it is planned the teams have an extra day of rest. The exact schedule will be announced later.
The Wild Card stage is attended by six teams. They play in one Round Robin group with BO2 matches. The top two teams will advance to the next stage.
The Group stage is attended by 8 teams. They also have one Round Robin group with BO2 matches. The two strongest teams go to the playoffs' Upper bracket, 3-4 places go to the playoffs' Lower bracket, and the rest leave the championship.
In the Playoffs, the 6 Regional Leagues' winners join the Group Stage teams. They play by a Double Elimination system, where each match is up to 2 wins, the grand final - up to 3 wins.
How will each stage hold?
Group and Wild Card stages will be held at the hotel. The broadcast delay will be about three minutes.
The Playoff stage will be held in LAN at WePlay Esports Arena Kyiv. The organizer didn't specify whether there could be a delay in the broadcast.
Why is animation the central theme of the Major?
The main reason for this decision was the recent release of the animated series DOTA: Dragon's Blood, which received many positive reviews and high ratings from critics. Another reason was the recent collaborations of Esports organizations with anime brands, such as Team Liquid's Naruto line of merchandise.
WePlay AniMajor will run from June 2-13, and its prize pool is the same as at One Esports Singapore Major 2021 — $500,000 and 2,700 DPC points.
