EWC 2026 Dota 2: The Ultimate Guide to the Tournament of the Year in Paris
The Esports World Cup 2026 Dota 2 tournament is one of the most anticipated events of the year in the world of esports. The tournament will bring together 24 of the world's strongest teams, who will compete for an impressive $2,000,000 prize pool, as well as prestigious Club Points that contribute to the overall standings of the multi-disciplinary EWC 2026 festival.
Dates and Venue
In 2026, the tournament will be held for the first time not in Saudi Arabia, but in the cultural capital of Europe – Paris, France. The organizers decided to change the location on May 20 to give spectators and players a new experience at the legendary esports arena.
The competition will start on July 7 and conclude with the grand final on July 19, 2026. The tournament will be part of the first week of the massive seven-week esports marathon EWC 2026, which will run until August 23.
Tournament Format
The organizers have prepared a packed and dynamic bracket to allow viewers to enjoy as many exciting matches as possible.
Group Stage
At the start, 24 teams will be divided into 4 groups of 6 teams each. Group stage matches will be played in a best-of-2 (two maps) format, where every team plays against every other team.
* 1st place: Advances directly to the playoffs.
* 2nd, 3rd, and 4th places: Proceed to the Survival Stage (qualifying matches) for a chance to reach the playoffs.
* 5th and 6th places: Are eliminated from the tournament.
Survival Stage
This stage will determine the remaining playoff participants. Teams that finished 3rd and 4th meet each other in the first round. Winners advance further to face the group's 2nd-place teams. All Survival Stage matches are played in a best-of-3 (two wins needed) format.
Playoffs
The final part of the tournament will feature a single-elimination bracket of 8 teams. This means any loss sends a team home, adding incredible intensity to the matches. All playoff games except the grand final are played in a best-of-3 format. The grand final will be the culmination of the tournament and will be played in a best-of-5 (three wins needed) format.
Prize Pool and Club Points
The total prize pool for the tournament is $2,000,000. In addition to the monetary reward, teams earn Club Points, which are combined with results in other disciplines and affect the final position of clubs in the overall EWC 2026 standings, where tens of millions of dollars are additionally awarded.
* 1st place: $750,000 + 1,000 points
* 2nd place: $340,000 + 750 points
* 3rd place: $200,000 + 500 points
* 4th place: $120,000 + 300 points
* 5th-8th places: $70,000 each + 200 points
* 9th-12th places: $40,000 each + 100 points
* 13th-16th places: $20,000 each + 50 points
* 17th-20th places: $10,000 each

EWC 2025 Champion: Team Spirit
Team Spirit enters EWC 2026 as the defending champion after their dominant victory at the 2025 Esports World Cup. In the 2025 grand final held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Team Spirit delivered a clinical 3-0 sweep over Team Falcons to claim the championship.
The Eastern European powerhouse produced a near-perfect run through the tournament, dropping just a single game – their only loss of the entire event – in the group stage against Xtreme Gaming. From that point on, they went unbeaten, not dropping a single map in their remaining five matches.
Team Spirit's victory earned them $1,000,000 and 1,000 Club Championship points. The championship roster featured Russians Yaroslav "Miposhka" Naidenov, Denis "Larl" Sigitov, Magomed "Collapse" Khalilov, Alexandr "rue" Filin, and Ukraine's Illya "Yatoro" Mulyarchuk. Magomed "Collapse" Khalilov was also named the tournament MVP for his outstanding performances.
Team Spirit's win was their first Esports World Cup championship, taking the title from Gaimin Gladiators who won the inaugural edition in 2024. This victory also marked Spirit's second time winning what has become Dota 2's biggest event outside of The International, having previously won the 2023 Riyadh Masters.
